AFP March 7,1998: Red flages fluttered
in the heart of Moscow and loud speakers played deafening Soviet military
as Russians marked the 41st anniversary of death of Comrade Josef Stalin.
Some, waving pictures of Stalin and Soviet state founder V.Lenin, listened
as one speaker after another praised the virtues of socialism. Many accused
Boris Yeltsin of trying to erase all traces of Stalin from Russain political
life. "Even Churchill stood in respect for Stalin in his time. Yelsin is
destroying the Soviet people, the powerful Soviet state built under Stalin,"
Shouted one speaker.
